What We're About

West Willow Creek Ranch - Hunting

West Willow Creek Ranch offers some of Utah’s finest Deer, Elk, and Pronghorn hunting. The late season buck deer hunt is great due to the movements of the deer herd late in the year. There will be no shortage of deer to view each day and the chance to harvest a trophy is high. Bull Elk hunts are new to 2019! Several bachelor bulls have been spotted at the new water developments that the operator has established. Pronghorn can be difficult to hunt due to the openness and their keen eyesight, but several good ones have been harvested. This landscape is open and allows the hunter to utilize optics to find animals at all ranges. The boundaries of the property are very well marked and there is plenty of land to cover on foot, ATV or another vehicle. The operator of the ranch is very knowledgeable about the hunts and animals and will make sure the hunter has every opportunity to harvest their trophy. West Willow Creek Ranch is comprised of mainly private land with a few sections of BLM and SITLA mixed in. Contact us with any questions you may have.

Notes on Movements

There are very few stands of trees. Most of the deer bed down in the grease wood bottoms during the day and feed out of them in the evenings. Water is limited and some of the deer will travel to willow creek to access water, or drink out of small reservoirs/ponds. The season dates are ideal for hunting trophy bucks. This hunt can be very dependent on weather. The bucks are in the pre-rut, and can travel long distances searching for does in estrus. You will find new bucks showing up each day. The more does that start to move down to this winter range the better chance of harvesting a trophy buck. Winter weather helps kick their migration off, but some does will start to trickle down onto the unit by mid-October. It can be difficult to pattern a buck this time of year because of these pre-rut movements.

Pronghorn Antelope

Pronghorn can be difficult to locate on this unit. There are several places you can gain elevation and take advantage of using your optics to locate these animals. I would focus your efforts on the large flats above Willow Creek

Pronghorn are a challenging animal to hunt. They have great vision but are curious and will often respond to flagging or a decoy. During the rut the bucks become very territorial and will leave scrapes along the roads to warn off other males. During the peak rut you can expect to find the bucks in with the herds of does.
